County and Village Campgrounds

There are several exceptional village and county campgrounds maintained in Black River Country. Please note that in Jackson County, village- and country-run campgrounds cannot be reserved and are available first come, first-serve basis. Payment of site fees is on the honor system—please leave your fee in the receptacle provided at each site.

Crawford Hills

ATV/Motorcycle County Park & Campground. Primarily an off-road vehicle park. This county park offers visitors a chance to drive their motorcycles and ATV’s along single-track motorcycle trails through the park or to access other county ATV trails. 15 campsites, drinking water, hiking, playground, ATV/motorcycle trail access, fee or park sticker required.

Directions: Exit #116, Hwy 54 East 15 miles.

East Arbutus

County Campground. 150 campsites, firewood, ice, drinking water, showers, RV dump stations, boating, hiking, playground. Popular with water-skiers, jet-skiers, boaters, anglers and beachcombers. Some lakeside sites. Fee or park sticker required. ATV/Motorcycle Trail Access

Directions: Exit # 116, Hwy 54 for 6 miles east to County K. Turn north for 8 miles to Clay School Road. Turn east for a mile to the park.

Gile Memorial Village Campground

Park & Campground, Merrillan, 20 campsites, firewood, drinking water, boating, hiking, playground, fee or park sticker.

Hixton Village Campground

Park & Campground. 20 campsites, firewood, drinking water, playground, fee or park sticker.Directions: I-94 North 10 miles Hixton Exit # 105. Turn left on Hwy 95 1/2 mile - fork on left.

Merlin Lambert

County Park & Campground. Once the site of a logging camp in the 1800’s, Merlin Lambert County Park is now a rugged out-of-the-way park in the Jackson County Forest. Its location on Potter’s Flowage attracts anglers in search of pan fish, muskellunge and bass. 20 campsites, drinking water, boating, hiking, playground. Fee or park sticker requires.

Directions: Exit # 116, take Hwy 54 east for 20 miles to McKenna Road. Turn south and continue for 4 miles.

Wazee

Campground and Recreation Area. the former site of an iron mine, Wazee Lake attracts scuba divers due to its clarity. 15 miles of hiking/biking trails may give visitors a glimpse of two endangered species that inhabit the park: the timber wolf and the Karner Blue butterfly. 12 campsites, drinking water, boating (no motors), hiking, scuba diving. Fee or park sticker required.

Directions: Exit # 116. Hwy 54 East 6 miles. Turn South on Brockway Road for 4 miles.

West Arbutus

County Campground. On the western shore of Lake Arbutus, this park is heavily used for motorized water recreation, including motor boating, water skiing and jet skiing. 45 campsites, firewood, ice, drinking water, boating, hiking, playground. Fee or park sticker required.

Park Regulations

Vehicle Admission and Dive Fee Required - Motor vehicles require an admission sticker to use East and West Arbutus and Wazee Lake Recreational Area from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. This fee was instituted to protect campers from excess traffic and unnecessary disturbances.

Park and Office Hours: Parks are open to visitors from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. The park office is open daily with extended hours on weekends.

Camping
Quiet hours are from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

  • Campsites must show occupancy the first night of the permit, unless other arrangements are made with the Park Manager.
  • If a site is left unoccupied, the site will be reassigned.
  • One camping unit per campsite unless authorized by management.
  • Each campsite is set up for one family unit (a non-family unit consists of not more than 5 persons.)
  • All camping permits expire at 3 p.m.
  • Permits may not exceed 21 nights per campsite.
  • No refund of camping fees.
  • You may extend your stay by renewing your permit by 10:00 a.m. on the expiration date.

Off-Road Vehicles may drive only on designated trails and areas. No off-road vehicle use is allowed in any campground except Crawford Hills ATV-Motorcycle Park.

Fires and Fireworks - Due to fire danger in our area, fire must be used cautiously. Fires must always be in designated fire rings or grills. Campfires may not be left unattended at any time. Fireworks are not allowed.

Pets may not be left unattended. The pet must be leashed at all times while in the park area. Leashes should be no more than eight feet in length.
