Welcome to Black River Falls a beautiful, historic and friendly community in the heart of west central Wisconsin. The city is the county seat for Jackson County, and was designated as such in 1853. Black River Falls boasts a strong and uniquely interesting history. In 1872, Black River Falls became the first village in the state to establish a free city library. The current Public Library is home to the Jackson County History Room. The Jackson County Historical Society is active in the community’s historical preservation; recently acquiring the original library building which will become a museum commemorating the community’s rich history.
Not only is the city rich in its history, it is also a progressive community. There are many active community organizations and clubs. The Black River Falls Area Foundation boasts a new 4-mile paved and lighted walking trail. The trail provides a scenic view for a leisurely walk as well as a place for the health conscious athlete to run, bike, or rollerblade. The beautiful Lunda Center accommodates the Falls Players, the Children’s Theater, local concerts as well as guest performances. A fully equipped fitness center is available with a weight room, gymnasium, and racquetball courts, an Olympic size swimming pool with sauna and whirlpool as well as an elevated walking track. The city has 10 community parks including an outstanding, state of the art, Lunda Community Park and the Hoffman Aquatic Center. The 40,000 square foot Jackson County Fair Park / Milt Lunda Memorial Arena is home to Black River Falls Youth Hockey, Black River Falls Figure Skating Club and various expos in the spring/summer.
The Skyline Golf Course is a beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf course. The club- house is newly remodeled and includes a pro shop and a bar and restaurant with a breathtaking view of the golf course.
The Black River Area Airport has a new, updated indoor lounge and is located just south of the city of Black River Falls.
The city’s Industrial Park is located east of the city. The Industrial Park is home to several progressive businesses. Unique to the city’s Industrial Park is the availability of expanding the existing railroad spur.
The city provides four seasons of outdoor activities. Just east of the city, there is 57,000 acres of state and county forest. There are over 300 miles of snowmobile and ATV trails near the city. Scuba diving is welcome at the Wazee Park, which has a man made lake with depths greater than 300 feet, plus a sandy beach and several picnic areas.

FSF also stocks food shelves at some area high schools. Friends’ Food Shelf distributes perishable foods like produce, bakery, dairy and meat to anyone in need. The Jackson County Historical Society Museum, Carnegie Building, located at 321 Main Street next to the Courthouse, Black River Falls, is dedicated to preserving the history of Jackson County. Housed within the Carnegie Library, built in 1915, the museum has two floors of exhibits representing early life in Jackson County. Some exhibits include the Clay Post Office, a complete dental office, historical military artifacts, lumber and logging displays, and a Native American display featuring photos, beadwork, and leather items. The research area includes county business histories, family histories, biographical files, and much more.

A visually impaired program that provides audio tapes of local newspapers, a new mother’s helper support service, a school based mentoring program, a library book delivery service for homebound individuals, and transitional help from hospital or extended care facility to home, following an illness or surgery, are also available.

Partners of Black River Memorial Hospital is an auxiliary group that has had a long tradition of caring and giving. It was formed in 1967 and currently has 150 men, women and students who freely give of their time, skills and energies to support the hospital and its mission.
There are many volunteer positions within and outside of the hospital. Partners provides lobby/escort services throughout the hospital. They also hold several different fundraising events to provide monies for our hospital’s needs and projects. The Gift Shop is part of the Partners’ continuous fundraising and is staffed solely by volunteers. They provide educational opportunities to schools concerning teens and tobacco, poison prevention, and self-esteem. Partners also sponsor area Red Cross Blood Drives, including 2-3 times per year at BRMH.
The Partners operate the Telecare program, which consists of volunteers doing a safety call every morning to listed subscribers. On occasion, Partners have provided family respite for hospital patients/families. Partners also sponsor a Volunteen group. This is for teens age 14-18 to take part in many of the same activities as the adult volunteers, as well as allowing opportunities for job shadowing. Volunteer services staff will find the best “job” that fits volunteer’s interests, skills and schedules. Volunteers are required to complete and interview, application, health history, TB skin test, general orientation and specific orientation and training for their particular position.

Woodland Riders Snowmobile Club was established in 1972 in the Town of Millston, WI. This group of hardy snowmobilers started meeting at the 400 Club in the late 50′s. Besides enjoying each others company on trail rides, members wanted to improve the trail system to and from Millston.
Our club is responsible for the snowmobile trails from City Point & Pray, split just north of Bear Bluff on the northeast side of the country, through Millston to the Monroe country line on the west. We also take care of a short section of trail from Millston towards Warrens, for a total of 47.1 miles. We are responsible for all maintenance and grooming, which includes brushing and the installation of trail signs. The grooming is performed by Jackson County & Snowmobile Trails of Monroe County.
