It’s Trout Time!

April 2, 2012

The Black River Falls area offers outstanding trout fishing on numerous small creeks. The catch and release trout season opened March 1 in Jackson County and will continue through April 29 (the Sunday before the regular trout season opener, May 5).

This year’s beautiful spring weather has made this spring ideal for fishing for trout. The trout creeks of Black River Country are a cross between the freestone creeks of northern Wisconsin and the spring creeks of southwest Wisconsin. Brown trout, brook trout and the occasional rainbow trout inhabit these waters. Water color can vary from clear to slightly stained.

The best fishing can be found by using the DNR’s very handy and easy-to-use interactive map or the maps found in their Trout Regulations booklet.
