  2. Boating on Lake Arbutus: Water ski, jet ski or just cruise this beautiful lake. Keep your eyes open for eagles and deer along its unspoiled shorelines!
  3. Paddle the Black River: With few rapids, the Black River is an excellent destination for family canoeing. The river is dotted with sand bars, great for camping and sun bathing.
  4. Fish the river and flowages: The Black River is well-known for musky, walleye and smallmouth bass. The flowages are perfect for anglers looking to reel in panfish, northern pike, musky and bass.
  5. Golf: Black River Falls’ Skyline Golf Club has challenging terrain and scenic beauty. Enjoy 18 holes through the pines.
  6. Hike: Between the Jackson County Forest and the Black River State Forest, there are over 100 miles of hiking trails to enjoy. White-tailed deer, wild turkey and ruffed grouse are frequently seen by hikers and the birding is fantastic too.
  7. Mountain bike: The Black River State Forest has 24 miles of designated mountain biking trails, running through scenic pine and oak forests with terrain ready to challenge bikers of all levels.

  9. Horseback riding: Redrock Trail Rides in Sparta has 30 horses and ponies to take you on the ride of a lifetime! They’ve got over 12 miles of groomed ridge and valley trails just waiting for you to see.
  10. Disc golf: Test your skills in one of two parks in Black River Country: the Rock Springs Park in Black River Falls or the challenging, nine-hole course at Wazee Lake Recreation Area.
