UMOS began as a single-focused, single state, migrant and seasonal farm worker serving agency only. Today, UMOS offers diverse programs and services to diverse populations with a diverse staff. Partners of Black River Memorial Hospital is an auxiliary group that has had a long tradition of caring and giving. It was formed in 1967 and currently has 150 men, women and students who freely give of their time, skills and energies to support the hospital and its mission. There are many volunteer positions within and outside of the hospital. Partners provides lobby/escort services throughout the hospital. They also hold several different fundraising events to provide monies for our hospital’s needs and projects. The Gift Shop is part of the Partners continuous fundraising and is staffed solely by volunteers. They provide educational opportunities to schools concerning teens and tobacco, poison prevention, and self-esteem. Partners also sponsor area Red Cross Blood Drives, including 2-3 times per year at BRMH. The Partners operate the Telecare program, which consists of volunteers doing a safety call every morning to listed subscribers. On occasion, Partners have provided family respite for hospital patients/families. Partners also sponsor a Volunteen group. This is for teens age 14-18 to take part in many of the same activities as the adult volunteers, as well as allowing opportunities for job shadowing. Volunteer services staff will find the best “job” that fits volunteer’s interests, skills and schedules. Volunteers are required to complete and interview, application, health history, TB skin test, general orientation and specific orientation and training for their particular position. We have a big mission: To provide safe temporary housing, hot meals, guidance, connections to education and work placement for people aging out of the foster care system. Then continued support with affordable transitional housing to increase their success rate, reduce homelessness, and reduce the involvement of law enforcement, as well as decrease the number of future foster care cases. The Karner Blue Garden Club formed in 1995 with a strong desire to enhance the beauty of the Black River Falls area. Currently the club boasts 42 members, many of which are Master Gardeners. The club generously contributes hundred of hours each year to maintain 50 flower beds throughout the community along with more than 70 hanging baskets placed along Main and adjacent streets. The KBGC is supported through membership, generous benefactors, Black River Falls City Recreation Department, volunteer support from the community and various local organizations.

The Tavern League of Wisconsin is a non-profit trade association dedicated to serving the needs of the retail beverage alcohol segment of the hospitality industry in the State of Wisconsin. The League exists to provide services to members that are not available to them as individuals and to use the collective strength of its membership to accomplish, as a group, goals that cannot be accomplished alone. The League provides their members with services such as legislative and governmental relations, legal information, educational services and promotes the industry on behalf of its membership.
Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers is a private, non-profit organization that provides non-professional services, free of charge, to older adults and disabled people in Jackson County, regardless of income, religious belief, or ethnic background. Services are provided by trained volunteers from area congregations and communities to help people improve their quality of life and remain independent as long as possible. Possible services may include caring companionship, telephone reassurance, shopping and errands, transportation and escort to appointments, yard work and minor home repairs, light meal preparation and respite care. A visually impaired program that provides audio tapes of local newspapers, a new mother’s helper support service, a school based mentoring program, a library book delivery service for homebound individuals, and transitional help from hospital or extended care facility to home, following an illness or surgery, are also available.
Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers, is a faith based organization, providing volunteer opportunities for individuals wanting to put their faith into action by helping others. We match friendly volunteers to older adults, disabled individuals and people with special needs. The Jackson County Historical Society Museum, Carnegie Building, is dedicated to preserving the history of Jackson County. Housed within the Carnegie Library, built in 1915, the museum has two floors of exhibits representing early life in Jackson County. Some exhibits include the Clay Post Office, a complete dental office, historical military artifacts, lumber and logging displays, and a Native American display featuring photos, beadwork, and leather items. The research area includes county business histories, family histories, biographical files, and much more. Open April through October 12 pm-4pm. Closed November through March. Call for an appointment if its during the off season or if you’d like to visit after hours in the regular season.
The Jackson County ATV Association was formed in April 2009 to promote the sport of ATVing in the Jackson County area. Strong emphasis is placed on keeping the trails open by working with the State and County to maintain the trail system.
