Jackson County Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers is a private, non-profit organization that provides non-professional services, free of charge, to older adults and disabled people in Jackson County, regardless of income, religious belief, or ethnic background. Services are provided by trained volunteers from area congregations and communities to help people improve their quality of life and remain independent as long as possible. Possible services may include caring companionship, telephone reassurance, shopping and errands, transportation and escort to appointments, yard work and minor home repairs, light meal preparation and respite care. A visually impaired program that provides audio tapes of local newspapers, a new mother’s helper support service, a school based mentoring program, a library book delivery service for homebound individuals, and transitional help from hospital or extended care facility to home, following an illness or surgery, are also available.
