Welcome to the Black River Area!

While our most common question is “Where are the falls?”, the answer is a bit of a history lesson: the original falls were actually washed out during a historic flood in 1911 and were located where our downtown Dam stands today. While some smaller rapids still exist, most are tucked away on private property or accessible only by kayak.

However, there is still so much to discover in our beautiful corner of Wisconsin! Only two hours from the Twin Cities, two hours from Madison and five hours from Chicago, the Black River area brings the Northwoods closer to home. From adrenaline-pumping adventures on our premier ATV, UTV, and biking trails to peaceful rounds of golf and scenic hikes through the state forest, there is something for every pace. When you’re ready to head indoors, enjoy the amenities of the Lunda Community Center, explore local history at the Public Library, or try your luck at the Ho-Chunk Gaming. Be sure to leave time to explore our vibrant local scene, filled with unique antique shops, boutiques, cozy bars, and restaurants serving up classic small-town hospitality. We might be missing the “falls,” but we have everything else you need for a perfect getaway!
