Whether your choice is challenging mountain biking, paved trail or road cycling, Black River Country is the perfect all-around bicycling destination.

The Black River State Forest, part of 200,000 acres of public land open for exploration, has 32 miles of designated mountain bike trails with trailheads at Castle Mound and Pigeon Creek Campgrounds. The trails take you through scenic pine and oak forests with challenging terrain.

Another trail option is the nine miles surrounding Lake Wazee, Wisconsin’s deepest inland lake, which is a favorite spot for swimming, fishing and scuba diving. This former iron mine offers breathtaking vistas.

For the adventuresome, the Black River State Forest and the Jackson County Forest have several hundred miles of forest and old logging roads open to mountain bike travel.

A paved trail experience can be found on the Foundation Trail, a four-mile hiking and biking trail that circles the city of Black River Falls. Follow a picturesque creek as you climb through a deep valley and bike along the Black River.

The Black River area also has hundreds of miles of paved county and town roads that are perfect for quiet and beautiful biking. Hook up with the nation’s largest connected bicycle loop system in adjoining Trempealeau County where 18 loops and 400 miles of riding experience awaits.
