The Jackson County Historical Society is dedicated to the preservation, education and sharing our vast history, culture and heritage through exhibits, photographs and music for the past, present and future generations.

 

Carnegie Library museum – 321 Main Street, Black River Falls, WI

The Carnegie Library, built in 1915 and housed the Black River Falls Public Library until 1995. In 1996 the Jackson County Historical Society opened this building as a museum. The building is listed on the Wisconsin & National Registry of Historic Places. The museum offers two floors of exhibits representing early life in Jackson County. Some exhibits include the Clay Post Office, a complete dental office, historical military artifacts, lumber and logging displays, a Native American display featuring photos, beadwork, and leather items, Past Cultures section with local early Native American arrowheads, stone tools & many other local ancient artifacts and the Charles Van Schiack & Wisconsin Death Trip exhibit area. Open May through September on Fridays & Saturdays from 10am to 2pm. Open all year round by appointment.

JCHS History, Genealogy & Research Center building –  34 South 1st Street, Black River Falls WI.

The Jackson County Historical Society is pleased to announce the launch of a new project: Historic Ford Garage History & Research Center, located at 34 South 1st Street in Black River Falls. The fundraising campaign for Phase 1 is currently underway to restore, renovate and develop this historic building into a unique History Center that will serve as a valuable addition to the community to better serve preservation, research and educational opportunities of our vast local history. For further information, details, or inquiries on how to contribute or make a donation to this exceptional project, please do not hesitate to contact us. All donors will be acknowledged on a Donor wall within the History Center.

Spring Creek Schoolhouse Museum – N5311 Moss Hill Road, Black River Falls, WI 

The Spring Creek Schoolhouse Museum was built in 1885 and operated as a school until 1963. The Schoolhouse is listed on the Wisconsin & National Registry of Historic Places. The museum is a step back in time of a rural one room schoolhouse featuring many original pieces of the schoolhouse along with other local schoolhouse artifacts. Open May through September on the first Sunday of each month from Noon to 3pm. Open by appointment all year round. Groups, organizations and schools are welcome for tours & field trips. Also an event venue option for family reunions, class reunions, weddings and community events.
