Guest Presentation on Assisted Stretching – Lunda Community Center
September 30 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS DURING ASSISTED STRETCHING?
On Wednesday, September 30th at 1:00 PM, I’ll be giving a FREE guest presentation at the Lunda Community Center on assisted stretching — and I want this to be much more than “stretching is good for you.”
We’re going to dig into why your body moves the way it does.
We’ll talk about things like:
• Flexibility vs. mobility — and why they’re not the same thing
• Why feeling “tight” doesn’t necessarily mean a muscle simply needs to be stretched
• How your nervous system influences your available range of motion
• Why breathing and relaxation can change what happens during a stretch
• The basics of PNF stretching and why muscular contractions can sometimes help improve range of motion
• How prolonged sitting, repetitive movement and everyday habits can influence posture and mobility
• Why stretching harder isn’t necessarily stretching better
• How assisted stretching can be individualized for different bodies, ages and abilities
• How mobility can affect exercise, recovery and everyday activities
• What I assess before and during an assisted stretching session
• And most importantly — when stretching may NOT be the answer
I’ll also explain some of the anatomy, physiology and kinesiology behind what we’re doing without turning the afternoon into an anatomy lecture. 😂
And I want YOUR questions!!!
Have a hip that always feels tight?
Wonder why you can touch your toes one day and can’t the next?
Curious whether stretching before exercise hurts or helps performance?
Wonder what the difference is between assisted stretching, massage, physical therapy and simply stretching at home?
ASK ME!!!
There are no stupid questions, and you absolutely do not need to already be one of my clients to attend.
My goal isn’t to convince everyone that they need assisted stretching.
My goal is for you to walk out understanding your body and movement a little better than you did when you walked in.
