Experience the power and excitement of the Black River during the Friends of the Black River 2026 Paddle Schedule: Whitewater Releases at Hatfield Dam. This event series gives paddlers the opportunity to enjoy scheduled whitewater release days near Hatfield Dam, with meetups at Clayschool Road.

The Black River Country event series includes four whitewater paddle dates in 2026: June 13, July 11, August 8, and September 12, each listed from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Participants will meet near Hatfield Dam at Clayschool Road for a guided paddling opportunity during controlled water releases along the Black River. This experience is best suited for paddlers looking for a more active, adventurous outing on moving water. The National Weather Service’s Hatfield Hydro Flow Release Plan notes that 2026 whitewater flow releases are scheduled for June 13, July 11, August 8, and September 12, with releases occurring between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The release plan also notes that conditions may create Class II, III, and IV pool-drop rapids, requiring an intermediate to advanced skill level, and that boating is at participants’ own risk.
